WHAT: Older adults are particularly vulnerable to dehydration and the cascade of problems associated with it. That is why it is crucial for those caring for them to identify dehydration risk and intervene as soon as possible. This webinar will shed light on the important areas to focus on when addressing hydration and will include best practices for successful interventions.
This unique webinar format will include not only the RD and SLP perspective, but it will also include guidance from a physician, athletic training educator, and researcher on how principles of hydrating athletes can be applied to hydrating the older adult.

S.Andrew Cage EdD,ATC, LAT, CES, PES, CCT just completed his eleventh year as the Head Athletic Trainer of the award-winning Athletic Training Department at the University of Texas at Tyler in 2023-2024. As the Head Athletic Trainer, Andrew oversees a staff of seven certified and licensed athletic trainers that provide medical coverage for UT Tyler’s intercollegiate athletics programs while providing primary coverage for the UT Tyler baseball team.
Cage completed his Doctorate of Education in Kinesiology through the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in August 2021. Andrew also serves as an athletic trainer for USA BMX and USA Cycling for Freestyle and Race Events in Texas.
In addition to working clinically, Andrew has presented at International, National, and Regional Sports Medicine Conferences on topics relevant to modern sports medicine issues. He has used these opportunities to spread awareness of evidence-based practice concepts within clinical athletic training settings and continues to seek opportunities to add to current literature within the profession.
Andrew also serves as the Chair of the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association Free Communications and Research Committee, the Chair of the East Texas Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Honor Committee, and volunteers as an athletic trainer with organizations such as the Northeast Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Special Olympics Texas.

Dr. Alexander Jacobsen, DO A physiatrist and sports medicine physician at the UT Health East Texas Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Institute in Tyler. Dr. Jacobsen sees patients of all ages and has a special interest in stroke, brain injury, sports medicine, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Dr. Jacobsen received his bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University, master’s from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, and attended medical school at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing residency training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation he moved to Tyler Texas where he completed his Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine. He stayed in Tyler as an Assistant Professor of Medicine with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, where he also established the first outpatient PM&R clinic within UT Health East Texas.
He remains active in teaching roles within the Sports Medicine Fellowship, several physician residency programs, as well as the Medical School through the UT Health Science Center at Tyler. Clinically, his practice is a mix of outpatient PM&R and Sports Medicine, and he is fortunate enough to be one of the Head Team Physicians for the University of Texas at Tyler and their Division II Athletic programs.
In his spare time, Dr. Jacobsen is spending time with his wife and three daughters, who remain his biggest motivation and inspiration.
