WHAT: Implementing the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI)* is an interdisciplinary process that requires ongoing attention and fine-tuning. During this webinar, the presenters will provide up-to-date information on IDDSI and share firsthand experiences working with the framework from both the speech-language pathologist (SLP) and registered dietitian (RD) perspectives. Actual CMS Statements of Deficiency from recent surveys that cite issues related to dysphagia and modified texture diets will be discussed along with practical strategies that demonstrate the positive impact of IDDSI. Videos of patient swallowing will be presented to help illustrate dysphagia risks that can be mitigated with IDDSI concepts, focusing on key topics like particle size and moisture. Attendees will gather easy, ready-to-implement ideas no matter how far along they are in IDDSI implementation.
This webinar is open to RDs, SLPs, dietary managers, and dining leaders with a basic understanding of the IDDSI framework. Each of these healthcare specialties plays an important role in IDDSI implementation, and working cooperatively will help usher in a new era of safety and quality for those with chewing and swallowing problems.
